GeoGuesser: Soccer vs SpotGuesser: two daily football map games, compared
GeoGuesser: Soccer and SpotGuesser both give you a daily football question and a map to answer it on. How they differ on questions, devices and friends.
· 5 min read
Of all the football map games, GeoGuesser: Soccer is the one closest to SpotGuesser. Both give you a football trivia question, ask you to drop a pin where the answer is, and score you out of 100 by how close you land. Both have a daily challenge and a streak, and neither asks you to sign up. The differences are in what they ask about, where you play them, and who you play against.
First, the name. GeoGuesser: Soccer, spelt with an "e", is not GeoGuessr, the well-known game where you guess where a Street View photo was taken. It is a separate app, listed on Google Play as GeoGuesser: Soccer Trivia, with a multi-sport sister app called GeoGuesser: Sports.
A note before we start: this is SpotGuesser's own site. Everything said here about GeoGuesser: Soccer comes from its own website, as it read on 4 October 2026.

How GeoGuesser: Soccer plays
Its tagline is "Guess the Stadium. Master the Map." You read a trivia question, drop a pin on the world map where you think the answer lives, and the closer it lands, in the site's words, "the more points you bank", up to 100 a guess.
Questions come from seven competitions: the FIFA World Cup, English football (the Premier League and the FA Cup), Spanish football (La Liga and El Clásico), Italian football (Serie A), German football (the Bundesliga), the Champions League and the Europa League. The site counts more than 2,100 questions across more than 50 countries, "with new venues added over time".
There is a Daily Challenge with a streak, rounds you can play by competition, and daily and ranked global leaderboards. You earn XP and climb levels, from "rookie tourist to seasoned globetrotter", and collect achievement badges along the way. There is no sign-up: you play as a guest, and your progress, XP and streak are saved on your device. The Daily Challenge and core game are free, and the site says "optional extras may arrive later". For now it is an Android app; the iOS version is "coming later".
How SpotGuesser plays
SpotGuesser is one match a day, and everyone gets the same five questions. You turn and zoom a globe, tap to drop a pin, move it as often as you like and lock it in when you are ready. There is no clock. Each answer shows the right place, how far off you were and a short explanation of the story behind it.
At the end you see how your score compares with everyone else who played that day, and your streak grows by a day. Missed one? Every past match stays playable. It runs in the browser, on a phone or a computer, so there is nothing to install, and there is no account: your scores and streak are kept in your browser.
Stadiums, or the whole story
GeoGuesser: Soccer is built around places: stadiums, the cities clubs call home, the countries that hosted World Cups, across seven of the biggest competitions.
SpotGuesser asks about places too, but often by way of people and moments. Many of its questions are about where a player was born. Others ask where a final was played, from the Women's World Cup to the Africa Cup of Nations, the Asian Cup and the Copa América. If your football knowledge goes beyond the big European leagues, SpotGuesser will ask you about it.
Scoring out of 100
Both games score each answer out of 100, and both pay more for a closer pin. GeoGuesser: Soccer's site shows the idea, from a bullseye down to the wrong continent, without the numbers behind it.
SpotGuesser publishes its whole scale. A pin 50 miles away keeps 98 points, 250 miles keeps 85, 1,000 miles keeps 50, and the other side of the world scores nothing. Five perfect answers make 500. The how to play page has the full table.
Strangers on a leaderboard, or friends in a challenge
This is where the two games differ most. GeoGuesser: Soccer is competitive in public: daily and ranked leaderboards against players around the world, with XP, levels and badges to show how far you have come. Its site does not mention a way to play against people you know.
SpotGuesser has no public leaderboard. Instead, it shows where your score sits among everyone who played the same five questions, and lets you challenge your friends. Add up to seven names and send them the link; each of them plays the day's match whenever they have five minutes, and once you have played you see the standings and everyone's pins, question by question.
Which one should you play?
GeoGuesser: Soccer suits you if you have an Android phone, love stadiums, and want leaderboards, levels and badges to chase, with extra rounds for your favourite competition.
SpotGuesser suits you if you want to play in a browser on any device, like questions about players and finals as well as grounds, want the story behind each answer, or want to take on your friends rather than strangers.
The daily habit is the same, so there is nothing stopping you from playing both. We have also compared SpotGuesser with Ballocate. Play today's SpotGuesser match and see how you do.
