1. The short version
SpotGuesser needs a few things on my device to work: my match in progress, my results and streak and, signed in, my session. Those are necessary and always on. With my agreement, it also uses Google Analytics to see how the game is played, so it can be improved. There are no advertising cookies.
2. What we use
Cookies and browser storage SpotGuesser uses:
| Name | What it’s for | Kind | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
sg_pid | Keeps my player record, so my scores are mine. | Necessary | 400 days |
spotguesser.* | Browser storage: my match in progress, results, streak and map style. | Necessary | Until I clear it |
spotguesser.consent | Remembers my choice in the cookie banner. | Necessary | 12 months |
sb-…-auth-token | Keeps me signed in, if I have an account. | Necessary | Until I log out |
_GRECAPTCHA | Google reCAPTCHA, set only on pages with a form that lets anyone in or sends email: tells people from bots. | Necessary | 6 months |
_ga, _ga_<ID> | Google Analytics: tells visits apart, to count pages and how people play. Only if I switch analytics on. | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
3. Analytics
If I agree, Google Analytics shows which pages are visited, how people arrive and how far into a match they get. If I don’t, it does not load at all. Google keeps the data for at most 14 months.
4. My choice
The first time I visit, a banner asks. “Accept all” and “Reject non-essential” carry the same weight, and Preferences lets me choose per kind. My choice is kept on this device for 12 months, then the banner asks again.
The banner doesn’t block the page: until I choose, analytics stays off. I can change my choice at any time with Cookie settings, at the foot of the menu and in my account's Settings, or here:
5. Turning cookies off
My browser can also block or delete cookies and storage. Blocking the necessary ones means SpotGuesser can’t keep my match in progress or my streak, or keep me signed in.
